About the Department
The Department of English offers two undergraduate curricula: one designed for students who want to teach at the middle and high school levels, and another for those who plan to enter graduate school or the business sector. The department is well known, both locally and across the nation, for its rigorous teacher education program, its distinguished creative writing program, the breadth and depth of its offering in virtually all literacy periods, and a cosmopolitan faculty trained at top universities in the United States and abroad. Graduates of the department now teach at dozens of schools throughout the nation, pursue advanced degrees in English and other fields at various universities, and serve as editors and writers for the media, industry, and business.
