Activities and Events

The British are Coming! The Southern Miss Forensics team vs. The British National Debate Team. Monday, November 10, 6-7pm. Thad Cochran Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public.

The Southern Miss Forensics Society will hold a raffle to raise funds! $2 tickets for one of four grand prizes will be available at the door, as well as the Thad Cochran Center Monday - Wednesday, and Friday from 10am-2pm. You can also purchase tickets for the raffle Thursday outside at Armstrong Branch (The Brick walkway between Joseph Green Hall & Liberal Arts Building.)

The Southern Miss Speaking Center & The Southern Miss Forensics Society will hold a speaking competition Thursday, October 30 at 6:00pm in LAB 203-204. Prizes will be awarded to winners and audience members. Registration is limited, contact speakingcenter@usm.edu including name, major, speech topic and event. Events include impromptu speaking and persuasive or informative speaking.

Dr. Wendy Atkins-Sayre and Dr. Andrew Hailey of the History Department have been awarded a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council to support a year-long lecture series about food.

Ms. Piyawan Charoensap, doctoral student in the Department of Communication Studies, has been awarded two grants from the National Communication Association to support her attendance at the annual convention. She received a Phi Kappa Phi “Love of Learning” award and an NCA student travel grant. She will be presenting the paper, “Evaluation of a Soft Skills Training Program.”
