Weekly Farmers’ Market brings taste of local flavor to campus
Fresh produce, baked goods and original artwork are among items students, faculty, staff and community members can expect to find at Southern Miss’ weekly Farmers’ Market every Monday.
Vendors from Hattiesburg and the surrounding areas will set up tents on the lawn next to the Baptist Student Union between 3-6 p.m., conveniently providing a chance to purchase locally grown and produced foods and crafts.
“We know how popular these events are to residents in our area and we wanted to bring that kind of service and opportunity to the Southern Miss campus,” says Dr. Susan Bone, assistant director of Wellness/Recreational Sports and Farmers’ Market manager.
In addition to a wide-variety of homegrown fruits and vegetables, vendors will offer:
- Flowers and plant nursery items
- Honey, jams, jellies, cider and sauces
- Jewelry, ceramics, water colors, oils and photography
- Dried flowers, wreaths, baskets, garden décor, woodwork and clothing
The Farmers’ Market will be held throughout the summer and early fall, ending the last week of October.
