Departmental Faculty and Staff
The composition of the School of Construction (SoC) faculty is 10 tenure-stream faculty, 2 full-time instructors, 5 visiting assistant professors, and 7 adjunct instructors. The SoC has the second highest student credit hour (SCH) production for majors within the College of Science and Technology (3,572 in Fall 2009; second behind Biological Sciences) indicating a high level of external demand. Internal demand is low because our programs are career-oriented; however, internal demand has increased from 4.75% in Fall 2007 to 8.41% in Fall 2009. Part-time faculty contributed 25% of the SCH in Fall 2009. The tenure-stream faculty maintain a high level of research and scholarly activity in addition to providing service at national and regional levels. However, the faculty are highly accountable to industry educational needs and accreditation and assessment requirements; two of our tenured faculty have won national industry teaching awards (2004, 2009).
All undergraduate programs are externally accredited with Interior Design and Construction Engineering Technology being dually accredited. All undergraduate programs in SoC received University Assessment Committee Certificates of Commendation for 2009 assessment reporting indicating the degree of faculty involvement in assessment. Faculty advise six very active industry-related student chapters (including a new U.S. Green Building Chapter) that further support the institutional goals of Community Connection and Healthy Bodies, Minds and Campuses. The Student Constructors annually provide volunteer hours supporting food drives for charity, United Way and Habitat for Humanity-- this chapter has won national industry awards consistently over the last ten years.
