Message from the Dean

On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of The
University of Southern Mississippi College of Science and Technology, I welcome
you to our Web site. I am honored to serve as dean of this learning and
research community dedicated to the discovery and transmittal of scientific and
technological knowledge. The College of Science and Technology plays a major
role in the teaching, research, and service missions of the University.
The college as presently constituted is a new entity. Many of the components of
the previous College of Science and Technology, the previous College of Marine
Sciences, and additional units were combined to form the new College of Science
and Technology, effective July 1, 2003. The College of Science and Technology
is now comprised of the departments of Administration of Justice, Biological
Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Coastal Sciences, Economic
and Workforce Development, Geography and Geology, Marine
Science, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy; the schools of Computing,
Construction, and Polymers and High Performance Materials; the Center for
Science and Mathematics Education; and the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. In
addition, many associated centers, institutes, and programs are located in the
college.
The College of Science and Technology is one of the largest colleges on campus,
with 170 faculty, 2,600 undergraduate majors, and 500 graduate students. The
college is very active in research activities as demonstrated by the $37
million generated in external funding in 2004. The college is committed to
providing its students with a world-class education and the training in science
and technology needed to be successful in today's world. The University of
Southern Mississippi is a university on the move, and we invite you to join us
in this adventure. Please use this site to learn more about our college and
feel free to contact us if you need additional information.
