Bill
W. Shafer Scholarship Fund
Dr. Bill Shafer served as the Director of the Student Counseling Services for nearly three decades. He died on July 10, 1998, of
complications related to bypass surgery. Dr. Shafer dedicated
his life to providing counseling services to the university
community and to training students to provide counseling services.
 He
touched thousands of people’s lives in a meaningful way
through his optimism, warmth, and caring demeanor. In an effort
to continue Dr. Shafer’s lifework, a scholarship fund was
established in his name.
This scholarship is awarded annually to a Counseling Psychology
doctoral student who has made a significant contribution to
the provision of counseling services on the University of Southern
Mississippi campus. If you would like to help us continue Dr.
Shafer’s legacy by contributing to this scholarship fund,
