How
to use the Counseling Center
The first step in receiving services at the Counseling
Center is to walk in to the Center during our walk-in hours:
Monday Friday mornings, 9:45 - 11:15 a.m., and Monday Friday
afternoons 1:453:15 p.m. during the semester. Times may vary during break periods. The Student Counseling Services is closed over Christmas breaks.
When you come, you will be asked to complete a few confidential forms that provide the center with information about you and
also provide information to you about our confidentiality policies.
After completing the paperwork, you will be seen by a counselor
for an assessment interview. This assessment session last
approximately 30 minutes. The counselor will
ask questions about your reasons for seeking counseling, the
circumstances related to your concerns, your background, and
your previous experiences.
The counselor will listen to you and help you get some
direction about how to get your needs met. If you and your assessment
counselor decide that continued counseling at the Center would
be beneficial, you will be assigned to a routine counselor. They will contact you as soon as possible to arrange for further services.
Your assessment counselor may also require more information
about you and your concerns. If this occurs he/she may
ask you to complete several psychological assessment instruments
to better meet your needs. If you and your assessment
counselor decide that your needs would be best met at another
agency, your counselor will provide you with the needed information
for a referral.
If you have questions about the counseling process, see
the other sections of this Web site on individual, group, and
couples counseling.
