Since
initial accreditation of the program in 1979, all
students admitted to the doctoral program have been offered financial
assistance in the form of graduate work-study positions,
graduate assistantships, and/or research grants. It is anticipated
that this practice will continue in the future. Current departmental
stipends range from approximately $5440 (9 mos.) to $7040 (12 mos.) plus waiver of all tuition (tuition waivers currently
continue during the summer terms and during the internship period).
The total value of the assistantship plus tuition is approximately
$12,000 per year for state residents and $14,000 for non-state residents.
Students are requested to complete the financial aid application packet through The University of Southern Mississippi Office of Financial Aid (118 College Drive #5101, Hattiesburg, MS 39406-5101) in order to qualify for a full range of assistance that might include assistantship and loans.
Information on departmental assistantships will be shared during the on-campus interviews. Names of students who are offered program positions are automatically included in assistantship requests submitted to the department.
