We are pleased that you are interested in the Counseling Psychology Master’s Program at the University of Southern Mississippi. The Program is a 60-hour, 2 - year graduate program providing training in the knowledge and skills necessary to become an entry-level professional counselor and/or pursue additional study at the doctoral level. Our scientist practitioner training provides the necessary skills to implement evidence based practices with clients in a variety of community settings and engage in program development and evaluation. Further, our scientist practitioner training will provide a solid foundation for a doctoral program in counseling psychology.

As a full-time program, students are expected to enroll in 12 hours of graduate coursework during the fall and spring semesters, and at least 9 graduate hours during the summer semesters. Students are admitted once annually and all begin in the fall semester. Graduate training is concluded by a 600-hour, full-time internship during the second summer semester at a community agency under the supervision of a licensed professional counselor. Students are also afforded the opportunity to become active members in faculty research or conduct their own thesis project.
