CSHO's Staff

Agnes Hinton has been Co-director of CSHO since its establishment in 1998. She helped create the Community Health Advisor program in Mississippi, and served as the first director of the Community Health Advisor Network, which has expanded the program into seven states or territories. Agnes also helped expand the Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker program into Mississippi, with plans to expand into Louisiana. As co-principal investigator of the Deep South Network for Cancer Control, Agnes helped develop the Community Health Advisor as Research Partners training curriculum and implement it in 11 Mississippi sites, with more in process. Agnes also serves as associate professor in the Center for Community Health at The University of Southern Mississippi. Agnes is a registered dietitian with the American Dietetic Association; and a licensed nutritionist with the Mississippi State Department of Health. She earned her doctorate in public health nutrition from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her master of science in public health nutrition from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Susan L. Mayfield-Johnson currently serves as the Director of Education and Training for the Center for Sustainable Health Outreach, at The University of Southern Mississippi. She has been working in the field of community health for ten years where her emphasis has been with underserved communities and community health workers. She holds a PhD in Adult Education, a Masters of Public Health with an emphasis in health education, and a Bachelors of Arts in American Studies with an emphasis on 19th-Century American Literature and History. A Certified Health Education Specialist, she is also Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Community Health.

Rebekah Young currently serves as Program Specialist for the Center for Sustainable Health Outreach. She holds a Masters of Public Health with a dual emphasis in Health Education and Epidemiology/Biostatatistics. She also holds a Bachelors degree in Biological Science.

Sara Pollock Hoverter is a staff attorney and adjunct professor at the Harrison Institute for Public Law at Georgetown University Law Center. Her area of concentration is health policy, including state health insurance reform strategies, ERISA, Medicaid, international tobacco control, and workforce development policies for the frontline workforce of community health workers. Her past positions have included jobs at the National Partnership for Women and Families, the Center for Law and the Public’s Health, and the DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. She also teaches an undergraduate course at Georgetown University in the Women’s Studies Department entitled Women and the Law. Her education includes a B.A. from Yale University, a J.D. from Georgetown University, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University.

Jacqueline R. Scott currently serves as Co-director for the Center for Sustainable Health Outreach, a part of the Harrison Institute for Public Law at the Georgetown University Law Center. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the Law Center. Jackie concentrates her work in the policy and legislative areas of Children and Family Law, Health Law, and Race and Gender Equity. She began her career in policy work serving as lobbyist and legislative counsel for a major civil liberties/civil rights organization in Maryland. Immediately prior to coming to the Center she served as Senior Research Associate at the Finance Project, a national public policy think tank established to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of public financing for education and other children’s services. Previously, she served as a policy advisor in the governor and lieutenant governor’s offices in the state of Maryland, where she advised on issues ranging from early childhood development to juvenile justice, and other children-, youth-, and family-related matters. Jackie holds a dual bachelor of arts degree in government and sociology from Georgetown University and a juris doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center.
