Admission
M.S. Program Requirements
In addition to USM's general academic requirements, admission to the M.S. program requires a bachelor's degree in a science area (or combination of professional education and science), a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate study, and if pursuing a Class AA teaching lecense, a Class A teaching lecense is required.
Ph.D. Program Requirements
In addition to USM general academic requirements, admission to the doctoral program in Science Education requires a master's degree, three years of secondary or college level teaching experience, a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate study, and a minimum GPA of 3.5 for all graduate work.
Common Program Requirements
Applicants must also submit verbal, quantitative and analytical scores on the Graduate Record Examination, three letters of recommendation, and a letter describing academic, professional, and research goals.
Students who fail to meet regular admission criteria may be considered for conditional admission. Regular status will be given upon removal of spcified deficiencies, completion of 9 hours of USM graduate work (600 or above) with a 3.25 GPA (Master's) or 3.5 (Doctorate), recommendation of the student's advisor, and, for the doctoral program, acceptable performance on the witten and/or oral qualifying examination.
