 Who we are

The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi's® Center for Tobacco Prevention in conjunction with the University of Southern Mississippi is a part of a comprehensive education and prevention program that's improving the culture of health in our state. Programs offered by "The Center for Tobacco Prevention and Health Promotion" include:

  • Free training and research-based classroom lessons for teachers
  • On-Campus Coalitions for college students across the state that are working to empower students to avoid the pitfalls of tobacco and alcohol use.
  • Evaluation of The Partnership's programs to ensure that the organization is effectively and efficiently meeting its objectives.

 What we’re doing now

The Center is scheduling and training teachers throughout the state in tobacco prevention strategies. Special emphasis is being given to retaining teachers from previous years.

The "On-Campus Coalitions" for college campuses have also expanded from the existing 12 universities to the inclusion of 16 community colleges.

What we are doing in the future

rat reject all tobacco

Reject All Tobacco (RAT) will introduce a "Terrance the R.A.T." children's book available for distribution this fall. Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) will have the introduction of vignettes. The success of these and all programs will be monitored using pre-post tests.
