Teacher Education

 Who we are

The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi's Center for Tobacco Prevention & Health Promotion provides free training and research-based classroom lessons to teachers. Tobacco education is incorporated into lessons that meet the state education requirements for testing for grades K-12. More than 13,000 teachers have already taken advantage of this program. From math and reading to science and health lessons, the classroom lessons are educational, interactive, fun and free of charge. To find out more, call (888) 246-6183.

 What we’re doing now

The Center for Tobacco Prevention & Health Promotion is responsible for scheduling and training teachers through out the state in tobacco prevention methods. The programs provided to the teachers are: R.A.T. (Reject All Tobacco, K-3rd grade), S.W.A.T. (Students Working Against Tobacco, 4th-6th grade), Allies (7th-8th grade), and Frontline (9th-12th grade). The teachers that are trained in these programs receive free material for the classroom, tobacco prevention lesson plans that are easily incorporated into their existing curriculum as well as facts about the harmful affects of tobacco.

What we are doing in the future

Our plans for the future include teacher retention as well as education of new teachers with updated materials. A '3rd phase' of lesson plans for teachers is currently in the process for completion.
