The
New South Economic Development course was held
January 22-27, 2006, in the Downtown Marriott
in the Capital City, while a program on destination
development and a reception was held at
the University Club.
The
New South Economic Development course is put
on by the University of Southern Mississippi's
(USM's) Center for Community and Economic Development,
with Chuck Ueltschey of Mississippi Power Company
serving as course director. It is the only
professional development course accredited
by the International Economic Development Council
that is offered in the state, and is considered
toward the requirements for the Certified Economic
Developer exam.
This
year's theme focused on exposing participants
to the latest strategies and approaches to
collaboration in a competitive environment
and the "waves of the future" in
economic development. The course is appropriate
for full- or part-time economic developers,
planners, real estate developers, elected officials,
utility and transportation personnel and business
leaders and volunteers interested in improving
their communities and states.
