Malone

Dr.
Ken Malone chairs the Department of Economic & Workplace
Development. His economic development practice and
research is focused on technology based economic
development including technology transfer, research
parks and technology commercialization management.
He currently is implementing grants from the Lemelson
Foundation and the National Science Foundation for
providing entrepreneurial training to science and
technology graduate students.

Dr.
Malone served as the Chief Operating Officer for
the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast
campuses. Prior to joining the University, he held
leadership positions in finance, mergers & acquisitions,
marketing, business management, research and manufacturing
for the global chemical arm of TotalFina Elf and
for the regional chemical operations of Georgia Gulf.
Sherry
Parker

Sherry
Parker is the Budget and Curriculum Coordinator for
the Department of Economic and Workplace Development. In
this role, she maintains the budgets for the center
accounts and department accounts. In addition
to maintaining the budgets, she provides administrative
support for the Department Chair and the Director
of the Center.

She
was one of the course director's and course coordinator's
of the New South Economic Development Course. She
also acts as coordinator for student advisement and
academic programming. She received her B.S.
degree in Psychology in Social and Rehabilitation
Services from The University of Southern Mississippi
in 1998 and received her Masters Degree in Economic
Development from The University of Southern Mississippi
in 2005.

Prior
to receiving her degree, she was the Scholarship
Coordinator and Reservation Specialist for The College
of The Arts at USM for 10 years. She worked
at the South Mississippi State Hospital as a Mental
Health Technician in Purvis for two years. She joined
the department in July 2003.
Brian
Richard

Brian
Richard has extensive experience in economic, fiscal
and policy research. Brian is currently Manager/Research
Director for the Economic Development Resource Center
at Southern Miss.At the EDRC, his work concentrates
the impacts of economic development projects, local
retail and industrial analysis, and research into
the state of the southern Mississippi economy.

Previously,
Brian worked for a tourism industry association where
he conducted various policy and impact studies of
tourism activities in Mississippi and around the
U.S. Prior to that he was employed in the Mississippi
State Economist's office where he was responsible
for Mississippi's IMPLAN economic and fiscal impact
model and performed impact studies for a wide variety
of industries. He was also responsible for
modeling the states economic performance through
Mississippi's leading and coincident economic indicators. Brian
also worked in a regional economic planning and development
agency where he was responsible for market analysis
and feasibility studies for a variety of economic
development projects.

Mr.
Richard has taught introductory Economics at Millsaps
College. He has a finance degree from the University
of Washington and a Masters degree in economics from
Clemson University.
