Dr.
Eddie A. Holloway
Eddie
A. Holloway is dean of students and assistant professor of psychology
at The University of Southern Mississippi, with supervisory responsibilities
of University Police, Student Spirit, Greek Life, the Student Government
Association (SGA), Freshmen Associates, Judicial Services, and Student
Discipline. Prior to becoming dean, he worked as a counselor in
the University Counseling Center and as an instructor of psychology.
He has also worked in substance abuse treatment and currently teaches
courses in alcohol and drug abuse and student personnel administration.
He served sixteen years as a Hattiesburg city councilman, 12 years
in the capacity of president or vice president of the council.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology and personnel management,
a Master of Science in community counseling, a Master of Science
in public health education, and a doctorate in educational administration
from The University of Southern Mississippi.
He was selected in 1996 to serve on the Leadership Training Council
Board of the National League of Cities (NLC) and served as chairman
of the board, as well as on the NLC’s Transportation Infrastructure
and Service Committee. He held membership in the National Black
Caucus of Local Elected Officials and the board of directors of
the NLC. He was a member of the Mississippi Municipal League, and
he is currently a member of the Mississippi Counselors Association,
the Mississippi Association of Campus Student Affairs Professionals,
the Southern Association for College Student Affairs, National Association
for Campus Activities, the National Association of Student Affairs
Administrators, the Association for Student Judicial Affairs, the
National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the International
Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the American
College Personnel Association, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
Inc., as well as other numerous professional organizations and boards.
Holloway is a consultant and trainer with emphasis in drug education,
cultural diversity, leadership, management and change theory, customer
service, and conflict mediation. He is a seasoned speaker and has
made numerous presentations for schools, churches, professional
associations, and organizations throughout the country. Holloway
was the recipient of the Outstanding Mississippian award presented
by the Jaycees in 1989, an honorary inductee of the Golden Key Club
in 1998, recipient of the Afro-American Student Organization’s
Outstanding Citizen Award in 2000, the Juneteenth Committee Humanitarian
Award 2000, and a 2004 inductee into The University of Southern
Mississippi Hall of Fame.
He and his wife Sarah, assistant principal of Rowan Elementary School,
are the parents of two daughters, Leslie and Sommer, both graduates
of The University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Holloway is committed
to “creating a community of scholars” who are equipped
with big hearts to serve others.
