Dr. Etoile DuBard
1921 - 2003
Founding Director & Professor Emerita
The USM DuBard School for Language Disorders announces with sadness
the death of Founding Director and Professor Emerita Dr. Etoile DuBard
on November 4,
2003 at her home in Hattiesburg.
Growing up in DuBard, Mississippi, in Grenada County, little could Etoile
DuBard ever have known what interesting developments life had in store for
her. From World War II service in the Navy, to elementary school teaching,
to serving as a pioneering "speech correctionist" in the state of Mississippi
and author in her field, Etoile's vibrant and varied life provided richness
for so many who crossed her path.
From a multitude of students faced
with language-speech and hearing challenges, to the university students who
learned under her guidance and direction, Etoile's scholarship, compassion,
and generosity is reflected in the lives and work of all who had the privilege
of calling her teacher, professor, mentor, and friend.
