What is the DuBard Association Method™?
The DuBard Association Method™ is a phonetic, multisensory teaching-learning strategy
which was designed for language-deficient children. It was devised originally
by the late Mildred McGinnis, a teacher at Central Institute for the Deaf in
St. Louis. It has been modified and expanded by Etoile DuBard and the staff of
The University of Southern Mississippi's DuBard School for Language Disorders
during 40 years of the school's operation.
What will practicum in the DuBard Association Method™ encompass?
- Implementation of specific levels of the DuBard Association Method™ curriculum
- Establishment of proficiency in oral and written skill development, utilizing
specific multisensory techniques
- Informal evaluation of participant’s oral and written competency
- Planning for new instruction
- All requirements necessary to meet IMSLEC Teaching Level Standards for
practicum requirements
- Sixty supervised clock hours
- Three follow-up observations/consultations at participant’s work site during
a nine-month period. Observation/consultation may be by videotape or electronic
means.
Who is qualified to participate in DuBard Association Method™ practicum?
Those who have successfully completed a three semester hour course, or the
equivalent, in the basics of the DuBard Association Method™ are eligible to participate.
Practicum Schedule
Practicum will be scheduled on an individual basis for a minimum of three
hours per day. A total of 60 hours will be scheduled during the summer program.
Practicum will he held at the DuBard School for Language Disorders with sessions
scheduled <dates pending>. Participants will work directly with enrolled
or outclient students under the supervision of a
master’s level speech-language pathologist.
Registration Information
Individuals who wish to enroll on an academic credit basis must be admitted/readmitted
to The University of Southern Mississippi before the registration process can

To receive academic credit, individuals will be required to
attend the practicum and meet all requirements. The University of Southern
Mississippi offers 5.0 hours of CEU credit or graduate credit for this practicum.

Miss Office of Noncredit Programs & Conferences, the participant must

Practicum Check-In
Practicum check-in will be held in the lobby of the DuBard School for Language
Disorders on The University of Southern Mississippi campus.

The DuBard Association Method™ training course of the DuBard School for Language Disorders at the The University of Southern Mississippi holds accredited
status from the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) for its instructional programs at the teaching, trainer of teaching, therapy, and trainer of therapy levels.
IMSLEC is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1995 to accredit organizations that offer programs to prepare specialists in multisensory structured language programs. Click this IMSLEC link for more information.

The USM DuBard School for Language Disorders is approved
by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language
pathology and audiology.
