The public school administration program provides preparation for the Superintendency, central office positions, school principalships, and college/university instructors. Three (3) degrees are offered - the Master's, Specialist, and Doctorate. The Master's Degree Program runs on a cohort, four (4) semester system, beginning each summer session. The summer sessions are spent on-campus, while the fall and spring semesters are spent taking on-line courses along with a working practicum experience. Click here for an overview of the Master's Program.

The Specialist of Education degree requires a total of 36 hours beyond the master's degree, and requires comprehensive exams to complete the program. The doctoral degrees (both the Ed.D. and Ph.D) require a total of 78 semester hours beyond the master’s degree, including the dissertation, and proficiency in research/statistics (the master’s degree need not be in educational administration). The 36 hours of the Specialist's degree can be Embedded into the doctoral program's 78 hours with approved coursework and separate applications to both programs.

The student’s advising committee will approve the selection of required courses and electives and, to secure breadth and depth in the student’s preparation program, may require more than the minimum number of hours. A maximum of six (6) semester hours of non-degree, transfer credit is allowed.

The difference between the Ed.D and the Ph.D -- the Ed.D. is designed for those who wish to be P-12 practitioners in the field of Educational Administration, while the Ph.D. is designed for those who wish to be academic researchers.
