Dana Thames, Ph.D.
Dr. Dana Thames earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading at Louisiana State University in 1985. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy and the undergraduate developmental reading course. Her research interests include the socicultural aspects of literacy learning to teacher talk for confluent learning and healthy emotions as well as the role of vocabulary and its impact on comprehension. Dr. Thames has published articles in the Journal of Research in Childhood Education, Reading Teacher, Research in the Schools, Affective Reading Journal, Journal of Polymer Review and Reading Psychology. She has conducted presentations at local, national and international literacy conferences for 28 years. Dr. Thames has served as the President of the Mississippi Reading Association for two terms and the Mid-South Educational Research Association. She has served on several editorial boards of national and regional academic journals.
