MaryBeth Evans, Ed.D

Research Professor

Dr. Marybeth Evans earned her Ed.D.  Degree in Administration and Supervision from Wayne State University in 1964.  Earlier she taught children in the elementary school and served as an elementary school principal. She later earned the title “Director of Teacher Education” from Graceland University in Iowa where she taught for thirty-five years.

Dr. Evans is particularly interested in Early Childhood and the Arts. She teaches courses relating to these subjects at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her international interests have taken her (sometimes with student) to visit schools in other countries. She has visited school in Europe and Asia. She also visited schools in Haiti. Among her writings is a book titled “When Young Children Pray.” It is based on her research. Her writing also includes songs for young children.  Since coming to Mississippi Dr. Evans earned the title “Mississippi Ageless Hero for Love of Learning.” This was awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi. She has been teaching at the University of Southern Mississippi since 1988.
