The Big Book Read

"'That's exactly it,' replied Don Quixote, 'that's just how beautifully I've worked it all out -- because for a knight errant to go crazy for good reason, how much is that worth? My idea is to become a lunatic for no good reason at all.'" - Volume 1, Chapter 25
Don Quixote
Miguel de Cervantes
(English translation)
The Department of English, Sigma Tau Delta, and EGO will sponsor “The Big Book Read” during Spring 2012. Bringing undergraduate and graduate students together with faculty, the “Big Book Read” will read Don Quixote in its entirety (in translation) over a series of monthly reading group sessions. And, in the spirit of interdisciplinary engagement, undergraduates and graduate students from Foreign Language will also participate.
The goal of the series is to read 250 pages a month and participate in a lively and thoughtful conversation about a classic work of literature. Its focus is the joy of reading and talking about books. The Big Book Read’s first meeting will be Tuesday, February 14, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Then, we’ll meet every first Tuesday through May at the same time.
All faculty, instructors, adjuncts, and students are welcomed. Please join us if you can. Since the objective is to read and take pleasure in this classic, you can read any translation or edition.
