Big Book Read

Big Book Read - Bleak House

Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, and the Department of English is sponsoring “The Big Book Read” during Spring 2013. Bringing undergraduate and graduate students together with faculty, the “Big Book Read” will read Bleak House (1852-3), by Charles Dickens in its entirety over a series of monthly reading group sessions.

The goal of the series is to read 30 chapters a month, approximately 300 pages [10 pages a day], and participate in a lively and thoughtful conversation about a classic work of literature. And, its focus is the joy of reading and talking about books. The Big Book Read’s first meeting will be Tuesday, February 26, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Then, we’ll meet every last Tuesday of a month through April at the same time.

All faculty, instructors, and adjuncts are welcomed. Please join us if you can. Since the objective is to read and take pleasure in this classic, you can read any edition. E-books are readily available. If you are interested please email We’ve reserved LAB 346 (but we may have to move to a larger room).
