Rachel N. Spear received her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Louisiana State University, merging feminist, composition, and pedagogical studies to specialize in the interdisciplinary field of transformative writing. She positions herself within both composition and literary studies by examining trauma writing by women authors and by interrogating the benefits and limitations of personal writing and self-disclosure within English curricula. Her research fuses women’s and gender studies, trauma studies, and autobiographical studies and extends to writing pedagogy. She highlights creative expression and explores gender, identity formation, narrative (re)construction, and authorial voice through the lens of the personal story.
