Mississippi Review
Mississippi Review, a semiannual literary magazine that has been in continuous publication since 1971, has been described by no less than Pulitzer Prize winning poet and contributor Charles Simic as “probably one of the best magazines in the country.” Mississippi Review has published and continues to publish National Book Award winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Critics Circle winners as well as new writers just beginning their publishing careers. Work from the magazine has been awarded Pushcart Prizes and has also been republished in Best American Short Stories and Best American Poetry. Ann Beattie characterized MR as “Among the best small magazines being published,” and Raymond Carver, perhaps the most famous American author of the second half of the century, described the magazine as “one of the most remarkable and indispensable literary journals of our time.”
We also publish MississippiReview.com, a completely separate online magazine recently named by Writer’s Digest as the fifth most important and influential on-line publication. In 1995 the Web magazine was named by GNN as the first winner in its national competition for web sites in the category Professional Literary Magazine. MississippiReview.com is published quarterly under the stewardship of editor Frederick Barthelme and a host of guest editors. In the last year MR.com has welcomed over a quarter-million visitors to the site and dealt more than 600,000 files to readers interested in literary content on the Internet.
With both magazines we cultivate an irredeemably un-slick diversity which we believe produces an always lively, always offbeat magazine that is not readily pigeonholed.
Robert Frost Review
A peer-reviewed academic journal now in its 14th year of independent publication, the Robert Frost Review is published annually by The Robert Frost Society and receives generous aid from the USM English Department. It publishes academic articles about Frost's life and work as well as memoirs, notes, newly discovered manuscripts, and original poems. It also publishes reviews on books relating to Frost studies. It is the only scholarly journal dedicated to the life and work of Robert Frost.
