The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of English prepares undergraduates for careers in teaching, law, business administration, and almost any other field that requires finely-tuned analytical and communication skills. Recent undergraduate majors have found employment in teaching, publishing, advertising, editing, and management positions.
Many of our previous undergraduate majors are currently teaching in seventh- through twelfth-grade classrooms. In fact, we are proud to be able to supply the state with more than half of all its secondary English teachers. Our undergraduate program is designed to serve those who wish to pursue careers immediately upon graduation as well as to provide a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue a lifetime of literary study.
