Custom Verification

Verification is a process required by the university when a student is selected by the U.S. Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education selects 33 percent of all students who apply for federal assistance. Paperwork required for verification is determined by the student's situation. Your situation requires you to complete and submit the appropriate Identity/Statement of Educational Purpose Verification form, Child Support Paid Verification form, and the SNAP verification form. To determine which forms to download and submit, dependent students are defined by the following:

 

    • Not over the age of 24
    • Not working on a master's or doctorate degree
    • Not married
    • Does not have children for whom the student provides more than half support
    • Not an orphan or ward of the court

    • Not a veteran

High School Completion Status

  • Must submit final high school transcript, or copy of General Educational Development (GED) certificate (although current high school seniors do not have the ability to submit final high school transcript at this time, the final high school transcript must be submitted before any federal financial aid is disbursed to the student's account).

 

  • Note:  For transfer students, an academic transcript showing the successful completion of at least a two-year program that is acceptable for full credit towards a bachelor's degree may be submitted in lieu of a final high school transcript.

 

Special Note: Please make sure all signatures (student, spouse, and parents) are on all documents given to our office. We are unable to process your applications if signatures are missing. All verification documents and forms, with the exception of the Identity and Statement of Educational Purpose form, can be faxed to the Southern Miss Office of Financial Aid at 601.266.5769.
