Financial Aid Award Notification
An award notification will be mailed or emailed to you upon completion
of a financial aid package. The award notification
should be signed and returned to our office timely
to ensure complete processing. You may view and accept your financial offer
online at: https://soar.usm.edu.
Once you have logged on, click on the SA Self Service link, then Learner Services,
and then Finances. All students who are awarded a student loan must include the
name of the
lender of choice. We strongly encourage you not to change lenders if you have
had student loans in the past. Be sure to read carefully to determine the amount of financial
aid received.
Be advised that by accepting your offer online, you are authorizing Southern Miss to receive your
electronic loan funds and to deduct from your financial aid award all applicable educational charges
related to your attendance. You may withdraw this authorization at any time in writing to the Office
of Financial Aid. Should your financial assistance exceed charges for tuition, fees, room, board and
other authorized expenses, a refund will be issued in accordance with dates published in the Southern
Miss Schedule Guide.
If you are not able to access your award online, it is important that you sign and return
the enclosed Financial Aid Acceptance Form by the date requested.
Receiving these awards is contingent upon your being enrolled as a full-time student and on your
meeting Satisfactory Academic
Progress Standards on the date of disbursement for awards. Awards are subject to change
with regard to enrollment status, the receipt of additional financial aid, or a change in your financial
aid eligibility.
**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Future adjustments to this financial aid offer will be communicated to
you via email. It is extremely important that your Southern Miss email account remain activated.
**SPECIAL NOTE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS**If you are the recipient of a waiver (scholarship)
which covers graduate tuition or out-of-state fees, please be advised that your waiver will not be
reflected on the Notification of Financial Aid Eligibility Letter. The amount will be reflected on
your business office fee invoice as a reversal of graduate tuition or of out-of-state tuition fee
charges. Out of state waivers (scholarships) are awarded by the Offices of Admission, the Athletic
Department and the Alumni Association. Graduate tuition waivers are awarded by the respective
departments.
