11/09/2009 -- Gulf Coast closing early, opening late

In preparation for Tropical Storm Ida, all Southern Miss Gulf Coast operations will close Monday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m.  Operations will re-open on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at noon. Basic Prevention

  1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  2. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  3. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  4. Avoid close contact with sick people.
  5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  6. If you get influenza-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, stay home from work or school except to seek medical care, and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  7. If symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately, either at the Student Health Services Clinic or your family doctor.

  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

Risk Groups

  • Children younger than 5
  • Pregnant women
  • People with chronic health conditions
  • People aged 65 years or older
