Dr. Joanne Burnett's article "Two case studies of secondary language teaching: A critical look at the intersection of management and the local and social realities which shape our classrooms" is currently in print in the Modern Language Journal.

Dr. Carmen Carracelas-Juncal presented "A Pebble in the Pond: The Impact of a Graduate Online Service-Learning Course on the Practices of Spanish Language Teachers, Their Students and Their Communities" with MATL graduates Tiffany Robayna and Michelle Leland and MATL students Elvira Deyamport and Jessica Thomas at the Gulf-South Summit on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Through Higher Education in March.

Dr. Laurel Abreu had her article "Subject Pronoun Expression and Priming Effects among Bilingual Speakers of Puerto Rican Spanish" published in the Selected Proceedings of the 14th Hispanic Linguistics Symposium.

Instructor Keltoum Rowland has been named the Honorary Consul of France to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She recently hosted a ceremony at the Thad Cochran Center for three World War II Veterans who received the Legion of Honor for their service to France and the United States.

Kaycie Hall, a recent graduate of the department's French program, is currently doing a master's degree with New York University in Paris.

Congratulations to Jarred Hayes who received a Gilman Scholarship to suppport his studies in Jaén, Spain.

MATL graduate Verniece Goode has been inducted into the Mississippi Hall of Master Teachers.

MATL graduate Ryan Ruckel has been named PRCC Humanities Teacher of the Year.
