Students in the TESOL emphasis may choose to take courses outside of the department (up to 9 hours). Typically course offerings in English, political science, history, anthropology, and education are most appropriate. Courses in other departments may have prerequisites so check with the professor of the course if you have any questions. TESOL students with appropriate language backgrounds may be able to include pertinent courses in the other MATL emphasis areas as electives within their programs of study. Discuss options with your adviser and the course professor before registering for such a course. It also may be possible to take a course that would count in your program on a study abroad program such as British Studies or Caribbean Studies.
