Juan G. Loaiza has a B.A. in Modern Languages from Universidad del Valle in Cali (Colombia), an M.A. in Docencia Universitaria (University Teaching) from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana-Cali, and a Master of Arts in Teaching Languages from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Adult Education at Southern Miss. Juan G. taught English in his native country for 13 years before moving to Hattiesburg. He has been teaching Spanish at Southern Miss for the last five years.

His areas of interest include second language acquisition, vocabulary learning/ teaching, adult learning/ teaching, communicative-oriented language teaching, cognitive processes in language acquisition and second language learning, materials design for language learning/ teaching, and critical theory.

Juan G. wrote the textbook English Book 1 - Basic Academic Reading Skills, published by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana-Cali in 2003.
