Dr. Kasia Urban received a Ph.D. degree in comparative linguistics from the University of Cracow, Poland. Prior to her appointment at USM, she wasa tenured associate professor in the Department of French and Russian at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. At Concordia College she was a founder and developer of May Seminars Abroad, Practicum in Russia, International Business in Russia, and Russian Studies Programs. She is the author of several books and articles, including Russian Intonation and Pronunciation for the Beginners (1996, Chicago IL), Historical Russian Reader (2001, Chicago, IL) and Teaching Russian in the American Classroom (2000, Chicago). At USM she offers all levels of Russian courses (Russian 101, 102, 201, 202, 341, and 305) and coordinates World Languages and Cross-Cultural Training (FL401). Her research interests include comparative linguistics, development of instructional materials for Russian language courses, and curriculum development in the global context. She is consultant to law firms and businesses nationwide.
