The Office of the President and Faculty Senate seek nominations for the following awards:  Junior Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award, Junior Faculty Creative Activity Award, Junior Faculty Research Award, Mentoring Award, and Community Service Award.  The winner in each category will be notified in the spring.   The committee intends to recognize the awardees during the Letter Day Celebration in the fall.   A cash award may accompany the award, pending the availability of funds.  Self nominations are permitted.   The nomination process is accomplished by the submission of the materials listed for each award.  The deadline for submission of materials is April 18, 2008.   Materials should be sent to Awards Committee, c/o Catherine Price, Box 5176.  Please contact Dr. Price, Chair of Faculty Senate Awards Committee, for further information.  Please encourage your colleagues to participate in nominating and supporting outstanding faculty members for these awards.

 

 

Junior Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award

 

Description: This award recognizes a junior faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding teaching ability.

 

Eligibility: Full-time, tenure track faculty members who hold the rank of Assistant Professor with five or fewer years of service at USM are eligible for nomination. Individuals who have received the award once are ineligible for future consideration.

 

Supporting Documentation: Nominees should submit the following materials as a package: a vita, one 500 word summary statement of teaching philosophy, and two letters of support (one from a faculty member or administrator and one from a student). 

 

Junior Faculty Creative Activity Award

 

Description: This award recognizes a junior faculty member who has demonstrated unique creative ability.

 

Eligibility: Full-time, tenure track faculty members who hold the rank of Assistant Professor with five or fewer years of service at USM are eligible for nomination. Individuals who have received the award once are ineligible for future consideration.

 

Supporting Documentation: Nominees should submit the following materials as a package: a vita, one 500 word summary statement of creative accomplishments, and two letters of support (one letter from a faculty member or administrator and one from an external reviewer).

 

 


Junior Faculty Research Award

 

Description: This award recognizes a junior faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional research ability.

 

Eligibility: Full-time, tenure track faculty members who hold the rank of Assistant Professor with five or fewer years of service at USM are eligible for nomination. Individuals who have received the award once are ineligible for future consideration.

 

Supporting Documentation: Nominees should submit the following materials as a package: a vita; one 500 word summary statement of research accomplishments and two letters of support (one letter from a faculty member or administrator and one from an external reviewer).

 

Mentoring Award

 

Description: This award recognizes a faculty member who has provided professional/ educational mentorship to faculty / students.

 

Eligibility: Full-time faculty members (any rank) with three or more years of service at USM are eligible for nomination. Individuals who have received the award twice are ineligible for future consideration.

 

Supporting Documentation: Nominees should submit the following materials as a package: a vita, one 500 word summary statement of mentoring activities and philosophy, and two letters of support.

 

Community Service Award

 

Description: This award recognizes a faculty member who has provided distinguished service to the non-university community.

 

Eligibility: Full-time faculty members (any rank) with three or more years of service at USM are eligible for nomination. Individuals who have received the award twice are ineligible for future consideration.

 

Supporting Documentation: Nominees should submit the following materials as a package: a vita, one 500 word summary statement of service contributions, and two letters of support.
