What you need to know about your class schedule

1. What do you do when your schedule says TBA?
If you schedule says TBA next to the professor or time and place of the course listed you should contact the department the course is offered through (ex., you would contact the English Department for an ENG101 course or the Biology Department for a BSC103 course).

2. How do you make sure you are registered for classes located on the Hattiesburg campus?
All section numbers for the Hattiesburg classes begin with the letter H. It is not uncommon for students to register for Gulf Coast classes by mistake. It is very important that you make sure your classes are scheduled in the right location.

3. What does is mean when some of the course numbers have an “H” listed at the end of the course number (ex., ENG 101H )?
The “H” indicates that the course is an Honors course and should be taken by students enrolled in the Honors College.

4. What does it mean when you are signed up for an eight-week course? How do I know when it starts?
Your schedule should list the starting date and ending date of each course you are enrolled in.

Registering for Classes

Decode your Schedule

  1. Registration Code: The number/code needed to register for a class using SOAR.
  2. Department and Course Number: This identifies the department that offers the course and the difficulty level of the course. Courses with higher numbers typically have prerequisites.  Therefore a student should make sure he/she meets the requirements for each course in which he/she enrolls.
  3. Section: This refers to the individual class in which you are enrolled and the roster where your professor will record your grades
  4. Semester Hours: Indicates the number of credit hours a student will receive for completing the course.
  5. Time: Tells a student what time the class will be offered.
  6. Day: Tells a student which days the class will take place.
  7. Place: Tells the building and room where the class will take place.
  8. Title: Gives the actual description of each course. i.e. ENG101 is “Intro Composition.”
  9. Instructor: Lists the name of the instructor teaching the course. If the Instructor is listed as “TBA” then students can check their schedule on SOAR and/or contact the department which offers the course.

Decoding your Schedule2

The Arrows point out the important information on your schedule which can be found on SOAR.

Desription: This will tell you exactly what type of class to expect.
Grading Option: Some classes are graded while others are Pass/Fail. It is important that you know what grading option your class has.
Status: The status tells you if you are enrolled in the course, wait-listed, or if the course has been dropped from your schedule.
Date: Your schedule will list the starting and ending date of each class in which you are enrolled.
Location: The building, room number, and campus are listed on your schedule for   each class. The yellow highlighted section lists the campus where the class is located. Make sure that it says HBG if you are planning on taking the course in Hattiesburg.
