Application Procedures for Freshmen
How to Apply

Admission to The University of Southern Mississippi is competitive. Students must complete the college prepatratory curriculum listed below and submit American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores.

Sciences 3 units Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science
Social Studies 3 units Must have U. S. History, World History, American Government (1/2 unit) and Economics or Geography (1/2 unit)
Advanced Electives 2 units Choose from a foreign language, Geography, a math above Algebra II, or a science from those listed above. (One unit must be a foreign language or Geography)
Computer Applications 1/2 unit Computer applications/programming course


Regular admission will be granted to the following:

  • All students completing the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) with a minimum of a 3.20 high school GPA on the CPC, and submit ACT or SAT score.
  • All students completing the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) a minimum of a 2.50 high school GPA on the CPC or a class rank in the top 50 percent, as well as an ACT score or 16 higher or a SAT score of 770.
  • All students completing the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) with a minimum of a 2.00 high school GPS on the CPC and an ACT score of 18 or higher or an SAT score of 850.

Mississippi students not meeting regular admission standards may be considered for conditional admission.
