Research Agenda

Research includes a continued focus on institutions and economic development, specifically the nexus of globalization and domestic policies, especially an examination of economic and political liberalization.  For example: what are the political and economic indicators of liberalization and why are they ignored in some cases; how state/business relations affect economic performance.  Second, an ongoing agenda involves institutions, rule of law, civil war and ethnic conflict.  The theoretical thrust is to examine the various mechanisms--including the political economy mechanisms that influence ethnic conflict.  A new research project is underway that focuses on traditional governance structures in the Middle East and their affects on policy decisions.
