Mathematics Placement Test Information
The University of Southern Mississippi
Department of Mathematics-Gulf Coast
Students who do not meet the new math prerequisites listed below may
take a placement test. The results of the test will be one of the criteria
that will determine in which class the student may enroll. Interested
students should contact Dr. Harris (John.m.Harris@usm.edu)
or Ms. Naquin (Marlene.Naquin@usm.edu)
. The test is computerized and will be administered in the
mathematics lab, Room 134I in the Gulf Coast Student Services Center. Students
need to bring their student ID or something showing their name and ID number
along with a photo ID. The fee for the test is $10 (CASH ONLY) and
must be paid before taking the test. A calculator is provided on the
computer. Students are not allowed to bring their own. Test results
are given as soon as the test is completed.
Testing dates for the spring will begin on Monday, January 7th at 2pm.
Slots are in one- hour blocks and are available January 7th 2 – 4pm, January
8th 10am –noon and 2 -4pm and January 9th, 10am –noon.

| College Algebra (MAT 101/MAT101E) | Math ACT ≥ 20 or a grade of C or better in MAT 099 |
| Brief Applied Calculus (MAT 102) | Math ACT ≥ 24 or a grade of C or better in MAT 101 |
| Trigonometry (MAT 103) | Math ACT ≥ or a grade of C or better in MAT 101 |
| Precalculus (MAT 128) | Math ACT ≥ 24 or a grade of C or better in MAT 101 |
| Calculus I (MAT 167) | Math ACT ≥ 26 or a grade of C or better in MAT 103 or MAT 128 |
| Applied Calculus for Engineering Technology I (MAT 136) | Math ACT ≥ 24 or a grade of C or better in MAT 103 |
| Calculus for the Arts & Sciences (MAT 314) | Math ACT ≥ 24 or a grade of C or better in MAT 103 |

*If you are graduating in the fall 2007 semester and have not met your math requirements, please see your academic advisor as soon as possible.
