at Southern Miss Gulf Coast
The
College of Health at the Southern Miss Gulf Coast campus currently
offers graduate degree programs at the Master of Nursing, Master
of Public Health, and Master of Social Work levels. The graduate
programs are oriented toward meeting career objectives in the professional
and educational markets and promoting advanced study in areas of
interest to the students.
Purpose
The College of Health seeks to improve the health and well-being
of individuals, families, organizations, and communities. The College
of Health at Southern Miss Gulf Coast includes nursing, community
health, social work, and human performance and recreation.
Mission
The College of Health prepares students to work in health related
positions that enhance the quality of life for individuals, groups,
families, organizations, and communities. This mission is accomplished
through the teaching, service, and research of faculty, staff, and
students. Through classroom, laboratory, and field teaching, our
graduates are prepared for service in professional and applied programs
that address the complex, dynamic human needs within the community,
state, region, and nation.
A strong service function is a key component of the College of Health.
Faculty, staff, and students of the Division are committed to addressing
major service issues of the university and Gulf South region.
Research by Division faculty, staff, and students is designed to
discover, extend, and disseminate knowledge of human needs, development,
performance, and quality of life across the life span. Research
findings also strengthen the teaching and service components of
the Division.
Vision
The College of Health will attain national distinction through the
recognition of exemplary models of teaching and learning; fully
engaged and committed faculty, staff, and students; rigorous and
relevant curricula; quality basic and applied research; respect
for diverse ideas; professional collegiality; a technological proficiency
and ingenuity.
Administrative Units
The academic programs of the College of Health include the School
of Nursing, the School of Social Work, Community Health Sciences,
and Human Performance and Recreation.
SCHOOL OF NURSING
The School of Nursing offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master
of Science in Nursing
degree programs, RN-BSN and RN-MSN programs.

SCHOOL
OF SOCIAL WORK
The Baccalaureate of Social Work (BSW) is a 129-hour program.
The Master of Social Work (MSW) at the The University of Southern
Mississippi Gulf Coast campus part-time program is a three-year
program designed primarily for employed practitioners. The Master of Social Work program is accredited by the
Council on Social Work Education.
