A must for
PTSD survivors and those who work with them, December 30, 2004
Reviewer: David H. Johnson "human being" (Hattiesburg,
MS) - See all my reviews
Raymond Mansour Scurfield takes the reader through an account of
pyschiatric casualties of the Vietnam war that is unlike any other
book on the era that I've ever read. This is not simply a tale of
the horrors of the war...though they are illustrated throughout...but
is a first-hand view from one who worked in-country with psychiatric
cases and who has continued that work for nearly 40 years with veterans
of the war. His experience is invaluable and is presented in a style
that is engaging and understandable.
What makes the book indispensable is the door it opens into the
mind of the trauma survivor. This is not a book that is theoretical
in nature, though its foundations are clearly theoretically sound.
Rather, it is an eyewitness journey with practical insight from
one who is not only a keen observer of his surroundings, but a renowned
clinician with an extraordinary mind.
If you are a survivor, if you live with or know a survivor, or if
you work with PTSD survivors, this is a must read. Don't wait to
order it. Get it now and read it NOW!

Hi!
I just finished reading your book, A Vietnam Trilogy.I read it all
in less than two days. I could not put the book down once I started
reading it.
My husband is a Vietnam veteran having served in Vietnam from Nov.
17, 1965 to Nov. 17, 1966. You wouldn't believe this, but my husband
has a piece of shrapnel in his penis and for this injury he receives
10% disability or $106 a month. Isn't that ridiculous? He was injured
in 1966. almost 40 years ago and that shrapnel is still lodged in
his body!
We had been married for 24 years when our marriage was dissolved.
Seven years later we remarried. In reading your book, it seemed
as if a light bulb went on. I can now better understand the issues
in our marriage and our relationship. I keep telling my children
that 'ignorance is bliss." If I only knew what my husband went
through in Vietnam, it would have saved all of us much heartache
and pain for so many years.
Nevertheless, quite by accident, we discovered the Vet Center in
McAllen, Texas about a year ago. Just within the last two months,
my husband has actively seeked counseling. Thank you God!
We want to know where to order some of your books, most especially
the one "War related trauma-An Integrative experiential, cognitive
and spiritual approach.
Thank you! Thank you! for all of your work in this area.
