Message from the Director

The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory is an intensive research and education enterprise focused on marine and coastal resources. Our research is multidisciplinary and applications-oriented. Education opportunities span graduate degree programs, undergraduate field courses and hands-on discovery programs for precollege students and teachers.

The graduate programs offered through the Department of Coastal Sciences offer students opportunities for immersion in the world of ocean and estuarine research through work with faculty and our senior scientists on applied and basic scientific investigations, participation in large, multi-institutional programs, and publication in scientific journals. In addition to Coastal Sciences, "the Lab" is home to research centers and national research and development programs in areas such as fisheries, geospatial technologies, marine aquaculture, environmental assessment, marine toxicology, and marine microbiology.

Located at the present-day 50-acre waterfront site since 1950, the GCRL also continues expansion of its research to Cedar Point, a newly developed site in Ocean Springs. A third GCRL site is the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center and Aquarium in Biloxi.

Our 200 faculty, technical personnel, support staff and graduate students contribute to GCRL's robust research, education and service programs.

We welcome you to explore our Web site to learn more about the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
