As a systems ecologist, my research interests focus most on an interdisciplinary approach to modeling real and complex ecosystems at multiple spatial scales, including studies of hydrological cycles, biogeochemical processes, primary productivity, species invasion, energy, habitat suitability, land use /land cover change, and the impacts of global/local changes and extreme disturbances (climate change, land use /land cover change, accelerated sea level rise, hurricanes, and oil spill etc.) on ecosystem structures and functions and their implications on economic values at landscape and regional scales. In the aspect of teaching, I have strongly committed to teaching students how to think spatially, quantitatively and systematically.
