What: Free workshop—Coastal Research in Mississippi (CREST program*)
When: March 8, 2010 • 9 a.m.-noon (Registration at 8:30)
Where: Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Caylor Auditorium
Details: This workshop will look at three topics of interest to restoration and protection efforts for coastal Mississippi:
- Saltmarsh restoration
- Subsidence of the Pearl River Delta
- Economic assessment of coastal restoration techniques
Three researchers will make presentations on their projects, followed by discussion with participants:
- Dr. Jinx Campbell (USM) The role of root associated fungi in saltmarsh restoration success
Dr. Kevin Yeager, C. Brunner (USM) Assessing tectonic and associated drivers of subsidence and consequent impacts on coastal marshlands: the Pearl River, Louisiana
Dr. Dan Petrolia (MSU) Economic assessment of rapid land-building technologies for coastal restoration
*The CREST Program – Coastal Restoration and Enhancement Through Science and Technology – is a collaborative research effort joining the University of Southern Mississippi with eleven universities in Louisiana.
