Blue crab recruitment is physically mediated.
- There is a meteorologically forced window of opportunity from April to October
- Periodic impingements of the loop current and spin-off eddies affect recruitment success

Blue Crab Settlement
- Settlement was monitored daily from May-October and used as an index of recruitment.
- Seasonal periodicity is the same from year to year; but the magnitude of settlement is highly variable.
- Settlement is episodic.
