Hook/Release Mortality

Concern expressed by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources about undersized spotted seatrout dying upon release because of hooking and handling stress prompted development of this project.

  • Catch fish from piers along the MS Coast
  • Hold fish in pens for a 3-day period
  • Check for mortality every 24-hours
  • Release live fish after three days
