Post-larval Brown Shrimp
Prior to this study, no data on the critical post-larval shrimp habitat in the western Mississippi Sound was available
Western Mississippi Sounds is subject to salinity extremes
- In normal years salinity is related inversely to the flow from the Pearl River
- In flood years the opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway sends freshwater through Lakes Pontchartrain and Borgne into western Mississippi Sound.

Cooperative study will define essential post-larval habitat in the Mississippi Sound
Provide information that can be incorporated in planned freshwater diversion projects
