March 19, 2013 - The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory has received funding from the National Science Foundation for the new Science Center for Marine Fisheries. The center will provide an academic resource for the fishing industry throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf coast region.
LeFlore students and teachers enjoyed a one-day field trip to GCRL where they learned about map use, water quality testing, and using GPS devices. They also learned about demonstrating coastal stewardship by conducting a marine debris cleanup on Deer Island, where they collected a total of 258 pounds of debris.
