Biloxi Junior High School - Kindergarten Activities
November 9, 2012
Kristina Lamey used this professional development opportunity to learn about watersheds and how she can teach her kindergartners to be good environmental stewards in their community. These students were too young to go on a BWET field trip, so GCRL personnel went to their classroom. The students learned about marine debris through a creative craft program in which they constructed models of jellyfish from plastic bags and other recycled materials. In the process, they learned that discarded plastic bags that get into our watershed can be eaten by sea turtles, who mistake them for jellyfish and consume them. GCRL personnel learned that the kindergartners were very eager to learn and that kids really do say the darndest things.
