Poplarville High School was the big winner the 2013 Hurricane Bowl, with their A and B teams each taking first place in their brackets. Second place went to Ocean Springs High School. Long Beach High School took third honors. Twenty teams from twelve high schools competed during this day-long rapid-fire, quiz bowl style ocean sciences competition.
Between rounds of competition, students took part in several other activities, including tours of the GCRL specimen museum, a gyotaku fish printing art project, and an exhibit by the U.S. Navy on their summer program of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics study for high school students.
This event was made possible by the efforts of more than 60 volunteers from GCRL, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and USM’s Gulf Coast and Hattiesburg campuses.
