Shark Camp Itinerary
Shark Camp is a two-day camp developed for middle school and high school students. However, it is also available to other organized groups, such as scout troops, community colleges, environmental clubs, youth organizations, and adult organizations. The content is tailored to the specific audience.
- Ages 12 and up
- Group size: 15 to 50
- Fee: $150/person, not including room and board. Room and board are available at GCRL for an additional $40/person/day.
- Group deposit of $200 required.
Day 1 - Onshore at GCRL

- Sharks, skates, rays, and chimeras

- Difference between fresh and salt water elasmobranches
- Types of reproduction adaptations

- Review of 6/7 senses
- Review of other body systems (circulatory, excretory, ...)
- Senses Game
- Pre- and Post-Test
Day 2 - Boat Trip to Horn Island Area
Excursion to the Horn Island area aboard GCRL's R/V Tom McIlwain or R/V Hermes
- Hand-line for sharks.
- Fish for sharks with rod and reel.
- Catch, identify, collect data, tag, and release marine specimens.
Weather Postponements: Outdoor programs are dependent on weather and will be postponed if conditions are excessively uncomfortable or dangerous.
